Our Leaders

Rafael and Sarah spent most of their young adult lives serving with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in a rural city of northern Argentina called Corrientes Capital.

Rafael had previously been working at the YWAM base in the city of Curitiba, Brazil for two and a half years (since 2003) when God called him to Argentina with a vision to plant biblical studies ministries throughout South America. During his nine years with YWAM Corrientes, Rafael served as Director for the Biblical Studies School (SBSCC) and for the Biblical Studies Ministry and its staff. He also developed and directed an external biblical seminary school, called Eagle Seminary School. This school was prepared especially for pastors and congregational leaders in rural parts of Argentina and Uruguay, who otherwise had little to no access to pastoral study materials. God also carried out the vision that he had given to Rafael, leading him to plant and direct biblical studies schools in Chile, Venezuela and Uruguay. Shortly after moving to BC, Rafael completed his Bachelors in Theology Honours through the South African Theological Institute and FIET Theological Institute in Buenos Aires. He is currently pursuing his Masters in Theology through the same seminaries. He is also a certified personal trainer with BC PTI and PTA Global, as well as a certified life coach. He stays pretty busy, but not too busy that he can’t go biking on the mountains or play Nintento with their daughters, Isabella and Katarina. Rafael speaks his native portuguese, as well as spanish and English.

Sarah served in YWAM Corrientes, since 2006, in the areas of administration and in the Performing Arts Ministry, which works directly with evangelism through the arts and artistic training in churches. She also served in both oral interpretation and written translation, using her native English, as well as her fluency in Spanish and Portuguese. She currently serves as church administrator for BBA, as well as NAMB Spouse Advocate for other church planting wives in Greater Vancouver. Sarah also works part time as an Executive Assistant with Power to Change. Somehow she still finds time to bake delicious goodies and feed them to her family.

After almost a decade with YWAM Argentina, Rafael and Sarah felt God leading them to start something new in Canada. After much prayer, they knew he was calling them to use our Latin American experiences and languages to reach the influx of Spanish and Portuguese-speaking immigrants coming to BC. With no Canadian contacts or familiarity in pioneering a new ministry in Canada, the Lord began to open doors and create divine connections with the right people. Soon enough, they were able to connect with Ray Woodard, Church Planting Catalyst for the North American Mission Board. The rest is history, Burnaby Born Again’s history, as Rafael and Sarah continue to take steps towards the ministry that God has entrusted to them here in Burnaby, Canada.
